We are excited to announce the appointment of a new Social Enterprise Development Manager

HCD welcomes Douglas Racionzer to the team as our new Social Enterprise Development Manager

Douglas joined us on the 3rd April as our new Social Enterprise Development Manager.  An Ashoka fellow who has launched and supported social enterprises in England, Ireland and South Africa since the 1980’s, his experience is in advising and supporting emerging social enterprises.  This advisory and support skill includes assisting charities and community groups to convert their functioning to social enterprises.

Recently Douglas has used his background in community organising and social entrepreneurship to establish the small towns rejuvenation programme in Southern Africa.  This initiative has led to the development of a thriving ethical import and marketing social enterprise based in Ireland.

Douglas is a passionate promoter of the craft of social entrepreneurship with particular insights into its ethical and social impact on local economic development.

"I am delighted to welcome Douglas to the team at HCD.  The interview panel (including our outgoing Social Enterprise Development Manager) was very impressed with Douglas' performance at interview, as well as his application.  His experience and passion for social enterprise will ensure he is a success in the role and I am excited at what the coming weeks and months will bring as Douglas settles and seeks to build upon the excellent work that Brian (Millington) achieved during his time in post" - Edward Quigley, HCD Chief Executive.

Douglas will be contacting those who work with HCD in social enterprise support in Hackney over the coming days and weeks to introduce himself.  If you wish to contact Douglas, please drop him an email here.

Our Pioneering Social Enterprise in Hackney programme is supported by UBS.

HCD offers a range of volunteering opportunities for local people to get involved in their community.

Whatever your motivation for volunteering in Hackney, HCD can help you access the opportunity to meet your aspirations.

If you are looking for an internship opportunity to develop your understanding of social enterprise or the co-operative movement, we can help shape a role that will develop you and support the work we do to grow the social economy in Hackney.

If you are looking for work placements to help you gain the experience you need to join the job market, HCD can introduce you to businesses that will help and may be able to match you with courses run by HCD or our partners to support you in becoming employment-ready.

If you want to volunteer at community and cultural events that bring entertainment and vibrancy to Dalston town centre, there are plenty of opportunities to get involved as a Friend of Gillett Square, where HCD and partners programme a wide range of events.
