Over the years that HCD has been in operation we have been involved in many conferences and been asked to contribute reports, discussion notes and papers to many different organisations and events on all aspects of inner city regeneration, black and minority ethnic businesses and small business support and growth. Hackney is an inner London borough with many challenges, but also a unique set of strengths which can easily go unrecognised or unsupported by people looking at the borough, its businesses and workers through conventional eyes. In this section we keep an electronic archive of some of these reports and papers which are not only interesting for their historical context, but are sadly often still relevant as the challenges outlined in the papers has often not been fully addressed or even acknowledged in a world where success is often seen only in terms of a bottom line and not in terms of the welfare and well-being of an area and its inhabitants.
