HCDs business support structure

Gillett Square and the Culture House
UBS advisors with local businesses in plenary on finance organised by HCD's D4L project and ELBA

HCD has provided business support to businesses looking to start up in or move into Hackney since its inception in 1982. Since that time, HCD either as itself or more often in the guise of its current projects, has been responsible for advising and helping businesses with their constitutions, business plans, applications for loans, grants and premises, and referrals to other support and training organisations. We have also provided community based advice and support to existing small businesses and voluntary sector organisations, with particular regard to raising trading income in order to service increasing rental liabilities, and moving away from grant dependency towards sustainability in a diverse, mixed economy. Please see our special events page for details on past and future events organised to aid the local business community.

HCDs Dalston4London project, now closed, was involved in assisting businesses in our catchment area, both start-ups and established businesses alike. D4L was not only about creating businesses, but using our influence with local trade bodies and the Council to create sustainable businesses and to help the area rise to the challenges brought by the upcoming Olympic development and its aftermath.

If you have a new business idea and would like advice on how to proceed to the next step, we invite you to contact our business advisor Bekele Teklu on 020 7993 3637 (bekele.teklu@hcd.coop). We work in partnership with all the major development players in the Borough, so we can refer you on to other agencies where appropriate.
